Since its founding over two decades ago, Mollie has focused on simplifying payments for companies, eliminating the traditional costs and bureaucracy tied to bank-led services.

The move reflects a broader shift in how businesses handle payments. Merchants increasingly want fewer integrations, faster settlement and payment tools that support both immediate transactions and recurring revenue. Mollie is responding by bringing payments, money management and business financing into one financial-services relationship.

Since its founding over two decades ago, Mollie has focused on simplifying payments for companies, eliminating the traditional costs and bureaucracy tied to bank-led services. Today, it serves more than 250,000 businesses across Europe with a team of 1,000 employees, offering online and in-person payments, recurring payments, invoicing, financing, and money-management tools.

This integration allows Mollie to offer a more complete solution for businesses seeking seamless financial operations.

Faster payments with bank connections

The relaunched Pay by Bank product is now available in the Netherlands, with plans to expand across Europe in the coming year. Designed to shorten the route between checkout and payment, Mollie says its direct bank connections enable payment completion in three steps, compared with the five steps typical of other open banking solutions.

Key features of the updated product include direct payments from a consumer’s bank account, instant confirmation for merchants, guaranteed payments, transparent pricing, and support for one-off and recurring transactions. The product also securely captures a customer’s IBAN for future Direct Debit payments, ensuring merchants can build lasting revenue streams.

A public Issuing Bank Performance Page will track the reliability of participating banks, providing transparency for businesses.

For businesses relying on subscriptions, memberships, or invoicing, the Pay by Bank solution offers a more efficient way to collect recurring revenue. While card payments remain important for customer acquisition and one-off transactions, recurring bank payments can provide an alternative route for collecting regular revenue. Mollie’s unified platform allows merchants to use cards, local payment methods, Pay by Bank, and Direct Debit from the same technical foundation, reducing payment failures, lowering transaction costs and limiting involuntary churn.

When it comes to getting paid, businesses no longer need to settle for the status quo: we’re urging them to accept better and Pay by Bank is the first step.”

Mollie’s expanded ecosystem includes partnerships with Shopify and Adobe Commerce. Mollie’s Shopify relationship reflects the importance of commerce platforms in European payment distribution. Shopify merchants can access Mollie’s payment methods through an integration, giving businesses a route to accept cards and local payment options without building a separate payment stack. Adobe has recognised Mollie as a Gold Technology Partner. The relationship connects Mollie with enterprise ecommerce infrastructure and underlines its role as a payment provider for merchants using established commerce platforms.

This consolidation aligns with the growing demand for unified financial tools that support both immediate and recurring revenue streams, positioning Mollie as a key player in Europe’s evolving payments environment.
